Bug Hunts and Breakthroughs: Finding My Groove Again

Introduction
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been or why things have slowed down, let me start by saying this: life happens, and sometimes, so does the lack of drive. But hey, that’s part of the journey, right? Today, I’m here to catch you up on where I’ve been, what I’ve been working on (or not working on), and what’s next for me as an artist and creator.
Slowing Down and Taking a Break
Why I’ve Been Creating Less
Let’s address the obvious first—I haven’t been creating as much as I used to. It’s not for lack of love for my craft, but sometimes, the drive just isn’t there. I’ve slowed down considerably in the past several months. During this quiet time I didn’t stop coming up with ideas but it has given me an opportunity to refine them! Without that proper spark, pushing through felt more like a chore than the joy it used to be and I don’t believe in forcing the creation of art.
Making the Most of Family Time
Another reason for the slowdown? I’ve been fully embracing and savoring the moments with my family, especially with my mini-me and fellow bug lover, my son. A lot has happened, especially with him. He’s constantly enjoying micro-adventures outside, started school, and is my loving reminder that life is too short to put off those “watch what I can do” moments. These are fleeting, and I’ve been soaking them up as much as I can. After all, life is about more than just productivity—it’s about connection and being present.

The Importance of Rest
Taking a break has been both necessary and eye-opening. Creativity doesn’t flourish under pressure—it needs space to breathe. And while I can’t promise I’ll immediately kick things into high gear, I am working on developing a more steadfast routine. I want to get back to that peaceful, meditative place that creating art gives me. It’s the one thing in my day-to-day that I can get lost in doing.
Relocation Evaluation
Shortly after my first post in March of ‘24 we made the choice to move from the house we were in. I did the majority of the hauling so much of my time was spent ferrying boxes back and forth. We downsized to a significantly smaller building to begin saving for bigger plans and adventures! Thankfully, there was an extra room where I could work but I had to approach it differently than the garage and created a unique setup to prevent dust from going everywhere. Luckily, between the enclosed space and a shop-vac running when I carve it stays mostly warm in the winter when I’m carving.

Adventures Worth Sharing
Reliving Summer During the Cold Months
We have some catching up to do! Over the summer months, I’ve had some wonderful adventures—things I’ve been meaning to share with you. Now that the cold months are here, it feels like the perfect time to sit down and relive those warm summer days by writing about them. There’s something special about reflecting on those moments when winter winds are howling outside, don’t you think?

The Endless Plans of an Artist
A Creator’s Mind is Always Full
If you’re an artist or a maker, you’ll understand this: there are always more ideas than there is time. I am no exception. I have a long list of projects I want to tackle, from drinking horns to new skull lamps, but for now, my focus has been on taking things slow and finding that perfect balance between creativity and routine.

Breaking the Relaxed Cycle
Here’s the thing—art doesn’t make itself, except in nature. If I want to bring my ideas to life, I’ll need to trade my relaxed, unstructured cycle for a more disciplined routine again. It’s a challenge, but one I’m willing to take on because the reward of seeing a finished piece is always worth it.
What’s Next for Me?
Rediscovering the Joy of Creation
Looking ahead, my goal is to rekindle that creative fire. Whether it’s through a new approach to my unfinished work, starting fresh projects, or simply sticking to a better routine, I’m excited to dive back in.
Sharing More Stories and Art
You can also expect me to share more of my adventures and creations. Writing about these experiences is part of the reason I wanted to start a blog, and I’m excited to bring you along for the ride. Expect these and so much more as I start to finally put the Yip & Howl to good use because there’s a lot more this Coyote has to say!
Conclusion
So, where have I been? I’ve been resting, reflecting, and spending meaningful time with my family. These moments, especially with my son, are ones I’ll cherish forever. I’ve also been slowly finding my way back to the joy of creating. Life is all about finding balance, and while I’ve been taking my time, I’m excited about what’s ahead. Thanks for sticking with me—it means the world. Here’s to more art, stories, and adventures to come.

“Honestly, for any one person there’s too much to say that a tiny biography can cover. I’m an artist, a parent, a child, a hiker, a gamer, so much. I love nature in all of it’s unrelenting beauty, and I absolutely love being able to throw myself into the fray when it comes to running my business. I don’t let the phrase ‘I don’t know’ rule my life. In fact, it’s a challenge that I make sure I face head on and therefore I’ve become a jack of all trades who isn’t prepared to stop learning.”
