Description
Meet Stick — a clockwork-style coyote skull years in the making, and the original mascot of Painted Coyote Creations. Named by the maker’s son at age three or four, when asked what the skull should be called and he simply said “Stick,” the name stuck ever since.
Gears — some pulled from real watches, some not — cover the skull, set into holes carved directly into the bone to look toothed and mechanical. A pair of handmade goggles sits over the eye sockets as if worn, and a magnifying lens is affixed to one side, giving Stick the look of an old-world tinkerer peering in for a closer look. The jaw is rigged with a true hinge-style setup, held together with wrapped and looped wire so it moves without ever separating from the skull.
Stick’s mouth now holds a fully poseable leather tongue, hand-stitched with an internal wire armature so it can be bent and shaped into different expressions. Above it, a working watch face is mounted over the nasal passage, held about half an inch off the bone by a magnet — it flips up out of the way for battery changes without ever fully detaching from the skull. Three additional gears have been added to the tophat, and the Painted Coyote Creations logo is hand-painted across the back of the skull.
A removable black tophat, trimmed in purple ribbon with a single gear hiding the seam, sits on top — held in place by magnets inside the hat and on the skull, so it can be lifted off and set back on at will.
Stick was originally built to appear in videos for the brand, animated with fishing line to look like he was talking — a setup that proved too cumbersome to keep up. Now retired from mascot duty and freshened up, he’s ready for a new home as a one-of-a-kind display piece.
