Description
Holding this cup is like holding a moment suspended between two worlds — the ancient and the everyday.
Carved entirely by hand using a Dremel, this coconut cup tells the story of the horseshoe crab: one of Earth’s oldest living creatures, unchanged for hundreds of millions of years. Two crabs inhabit opposite shores of the same shell. One rests in the ocean, encircled by rippling water and soft foam bubbles caught mid-lap at the shoreline. The other has made its way onto the beach, leaving delicate sand trails in its wake.
The “sand” is the coconut’s own fibrous inner texture — left raw and untouched rather than polished away, so the surface itself becomes the shore. Where the Dremel carves grooves — trails, wave foam, shell edges — that natural texture disappears, just as wet sand gives way beneath the tide. Scattered shells near the waterline sit in their own subtle depressions, the sand pulling back around them as the ocean tries to reclaim what the beach borrowed. Bird tracks wander through, unhurried.
The water is polished smooth in contrast to the sand, catching light the way still ocean water does at dusk. Every transition — from sand to sea, from fibrous to glassy — is intentional.
“Timeless” is carved into the base.
Finished with walrus oil wood wax, this cup is food- and drink-safe, and ready to be used — not just admired.
